New Balance Unveils Its 2017 'Boston' Running Shoe [Photos]

Just in time for the Boston Marathon, New Balance will release its latest limited-edition Boston-themed running shoe next week. The Fresh Foam Zante v3 Boston is the 2017 edition of what's become am honored tradition around this time, for New Balance as well as a host of other shoe brands, local or not: releasing a shoe that honors the city and its athletes in the run-up to its greatest annual sporting event."Boston runners train with one goal in mind: to finish their race and be proud of the endurance, perseverance and strength it required, while knowing the ultimate prize of accomplishment and celebration awaits," the company said in a release. This year's shoe, available for both men and women and " inspired by the city’s fierce, competitive athletic spirit," is bolder and more in-your-face than versions previous. The purple is "interpreted as a color of royalty," a nod, the brand said, that honors the achievements of those who tackle a goal and accomplish it."Black accents and pops of color on the tongue, lace aglets, outsole and insole add to the excitement," said New Balance. "Stars and stripes are executed in a modern, bold design that celebrate athletes and the persistence and dedication it takes to reach the finish line." New Balance consistently puts out limited edition shoes that honor its home city, like last year's Boston shoes; their first ever Head of the Charles shoes to honor the race's 50th anniversary; Zantes paying homage to Fenway Park; an entire tribute pack for retired Sox slugger David Ortiz; and even the industry's first running shoe with a 3D printed midsole.
